Questions About Your First Visit

What should I expect on my first visit?

Your first appointment will last approximately 1.5 hours.  The appointment will include a full review of your health history, current issues and an acupuncture treatment.  Danielle will preform a complete Chinese medical examine, which includes checking your pulse, examining your tongue and testing specific acupuncture points.

After the initial exam, you will begin your treatment.  Danielle utilizes many techniques in addition to Acupuncture during her treatments, including Tuina, Gua sha, Moxibustion, and Cupping.  The needles are left in for approximately 20 to 30 minutes.  Most patients go into a state of deep relaxation and some even fall asleep due to the endorphins that are released.

After your treatment, Danielle will discuss a holistic treatment plan including any lifestyle modifications or herbal prescriptions that will complement your acupuncture treatments.

Follow-up appointments last about an hour and include a brief update on your condition, as well as an acupuncture treatment.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

It is good to wear loose, comfortable clothes for ease of access to acupuncture points on the arms and legs. Acupuncture points on the back, stomach, scalp, and ear may also be used depending on your treatment plan.  It is recommended to eat a light meal 1 to 2 hours before your treatment.  If you find that you haven’t eaten much, it is better to eat a light snack before a treatment rather than go without food.

What should I expect after my treatments?

Everyone’s body responds different to acupuncture.  You may experience an immediate relief of pain or symptoms, or symptom relief may be more gradual.  The effects of this treatment  may be permanent or may last for a few days depending on your specific case.

In some cases with pain it may feel worse immediately after the treatment. This is completely normal, it is called the rebound effect.  By the next day the pain will gradually improve.

Often the most dramatic results are not experienced in the first treatment, but this is not always the case. However, you should see further improvement after each subsequent treatment.
